THE CYBER UNIVERSITY OF KOREA (CUK) which was founded in 2001 for the universalization of higher education has established CUK Korean Language Education Institute (CUK KLEI).The establishment of this institute is based on its longtime service experience in Korean language education and training of Korean teachers.CUK has produced online content called 'Quick Korean' 1,2,3,4 that can be easily used by anyone for learning Korean beyond the boundaries of place and time. As part of its service to the community, CUK released its program on YouTube, Naver TV, Youku of China, etc. making it available to global learners for free.
'Quick Korean' of CUK is a remarkable accomplishment that has been developed by an excellent faculty of Korean language education and web design experts under the leadership of the professor Nam, Ki Shim who had served as the Director of the National Institute of Korean Language and as the Chair professor of Dept. of Korean language at CUK. As a result, foreigners from different countries around the world are continually using 'Quick Korean' for Korean learning. So far, millions of learners from more than 200 countries are studying 'Quick Korean'.
For years, 'Quick Korean' has received compliments from learners of Korean language around the world and a demand for real time lessons with an instructor among its users, not satisfied with self-studying alone, has emerged over time. In addition, continued influence of Covid 19 throughout the year 2020 and 2021 have made it impossible for off-line Korean language centers to operate making even the foreign exchange students in Korea to choose to study online. Incorporating such demands of time, CUK planned the establishment of an online Korean language education institute.
These ideas could become reality based on the success of blended online Korean education(online contents & real-time Zoom class) of both the students from Sripatum University, Thailand in 2019 and the local learners from the 10 countries from ASEAN in 2021.As a result, CUK KLEI was established and is now offering classes for foreigners who are not able to enter Korea due to COVID-19, have a difficulty staying in Korea due to financial reasons and for those residing in Korea wanting to study Korean while pursuing their academic and career goals at the same time.CUK KLEI would like to offer new learning opportunities for foreigners who has had difficulties in studying Korean due to high cost of Korean language education or conflicting schedule due to academic and work situations.
